There are currently 2,200 active cases in Victoria with 109 people in hospital, 29 in Intensive Care Units and 22 on ventilators. Outside of the state there are 14 people in hospital.Professor Kidd also said it was "unusual but not implausible" that a NSW man may have been infectious within a day of contracting the virus.Disability workers to wear masksProfessor Kidd provided updated advice for disability support workers and people with a disability, following a request by the Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt and Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme Stuart Robert."We are recommending disability support workers and people working with people with disability wear facemasks when working with clients with a disability in areas of level three restrictions," he said."People with a disability should wear a mask while receiving services at home."Professor Kidd said the virus posed a greater risk because people with a disability, particularly intellectual disabilities, have higher rates of chronic disease and were more likely to be in close contact with carers and support people on a daily basis.Coronavirus latest: Follow all the latest information in our COVID-19 live blogExperts to consider advice on interstate workersProfessor Kidd was asked whether people who move between Victoria and New South Wales, or other states, for work should be subject to public health orders banning them from places where there are large crowds, like pubs.It comes after NSW health authorities said a man from Melbourne was "likely" responsible for sparking the south-west Sydney cluster of cases. The man works for a freight company, but is not a truck driver, and so has exemption from the border closure."My understanding is that the Prime Minister has asked the [federal health experts] for advice on this and so we expect we will be discussing this tomorrow," Professor Kidd said.Aged care a serious concernA series of outbreaks in a number of Melbourne aged care home also has Professor Kidd "very concerned".He reiterated the importance of employees at facilities not continuing to go to work if they have even the mildest of symptoms. He said he understood authorities in Victoria were considering preventing workers from working across multiple facilities to stop any potential spread."Clearly each residential aged care facility has its own plan for dealing with the pandemic and for protecting the people under their care," he said."I know that a number of the facilities are looking at ensuring that their workers are only working in one site at this time while we are in lockdown, with serious community transmission."But whether there will be broader requirements, I think, is something we have to wait and hear from the colleagues in Victoria on."What you need to know about coronavirus:Should I wear a face mask? The symptomsThe number of cases in AustraliaGlobal cases, deaths and testing rates
