Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad is undergoing quarantine at his home since Aug 4 after one of his staff members tested positive for Covid-19.
He told Malaysiakini he initially tested himself using a self-test kit which showed a negative result, though he remained in quarantine because he is a close contact with the Covid-19 case.
However, when another staff member tested positive today, he performed a second self-test.
“When my staff member told me today that he is positive (for Covid-19), I performed a self-test on the same day. The self-test found I was positive.
“But since the self-tests are not very dependable, I am going for an RT-PCR test,” he said when contacted today.
He said the staff member who tested positive today regularly sees him for administrative purposes such as sending him documents.
So far, he said he is not experiencing any symptoms and is awaiting the RT-PCR test results expected tomorrow.
For the record, the Health Ministry states that Covid-19 self-test kits can only be used for screening purposes, whereas RT-PCR tests are the only tests accepted for diagnostic purposes.
Nevertheless, it said people who receive a positive self-test result should go to a Covid-19 Assessment Centre (CAC), government clinic, or private healthcare facility for further assessment.
Those living in the Greater Klang Valley region and have no symptoms should use the Virtual CAC facility instead.
On the other hand, people who test negative should still report their test results via the MySejahtera app. If they have symptoms despite the negative test, they should proceed to a healthcare facility for evaluation.
Self-tests should be repeated if it yields an invalid result.
